DM-DG-ThePOD*

Unreal Tournament 2004 map #14
A place, a creature, and a time... part biological and part technological... that is what
the POD has been described as in the legends of millennias before. It is the last
stop for those poor souls whom the POD grasps onto. Their souls must fight for the
tiny vapour of life-force that remains there. For all of eternity.
* Platform of Death
| Description |
Inside the POD you must
battle for your life.
The POD is a part biological and part technological creature, location and time, like an
eternal entity and soul-gatherer, where lost souls are trapped and the POD feeds off of
them as they die. As each person dies, their life-force is ripped from them and
floats around the inside of the POD where it is slowly consumed. The players must
battle each other to catch what little free life-force floats around in hopes that they
get to live just a little bit longer. The floating green spheres (custom scripted
actors) that run away from players who approach them, are life-force orbs (they don't
supply health in-game when touched though). |
| Design |
This map had the design
goal to be created in three days from mostly CSG Brushes and a limited texture set and
still feature great visuals and gameplay (but it took five days with all of the beta
testing and web page work etc.). The layout was a mashup of new ideas plus elements
from my UT99 maps DM-Illusion DM-Vapour and DM-Dyscus, along with bits from other great UT
and Q3A platform maps like Gael LongestYard and KleskonianCurves. |

| Notes |
- This map should play
well on almost every game system.
- All Unreal II content in this map was converted by me.
- Server admins may remove the screenshots from the zip for a smaller server-push map
file.
- The Jumppads on the outer Redeemer and UDamage Platforms are there for emergency takeoff
when the Teleporter is blocked by an enemy, so its extra long kick will give players and
bots some damage. Use the Teleporter instead whenever possible.
Map Specifics:
- Weapon loadout: Assault, Bio, Flack, Mini, Link, Shock, Rocket, Sniper. Plus
extra ammo packs.
- Health, Shield, SuperHealth and SuperShield are available on the map.
- The Double-Damage is on the map.
- Custom MultiAdrenaline and MegaAdrenaline are on the map.
- Redeemer is on the map. |
| Bugs |
- Bots sometimes try to
take a shortcut on a couple of paths and loop a couple of times until they go the right
way. |
