ONS-TCMP-DG-Meadowland
by David R. Green
Unreal Tournament 2004 map #4
Part of the TCMP Map Pack
After the morning dew has quenched the meadow flora, sunlight evaporates the moisture that
remains from the barren rocks and mountain ridges, forming the misty haze that enshrouds
the hills. Butterflies flutter over the flowers, birds sing their morning hymns,
eagles soar among the clouds, while engines roar and weapons fire... in the meadowlands.
| Description |
Control the Nodes and
attack the opposing team Core in the peaceful Meadows. |
| Design |
This map was designed to
create a life-like atmosphere with a large realistic terrain and plenty of flora and
insects. A larger depth of flora would be nice, however, due to limitations of the
Unreal Engine and current computer video hardware, to keep the framerate respectable only
a medium amount of trees and deco were implemented. |
| Features |
- plenty of custom
scripts, sounds, staticmeshes, and textures
- many custom designed and developed staticmeshes
- no CSG (BSP brushes) was used for greater map speed
- realistic high resolution terrain with erosion and multiple textures
- custom in-house developed software was used in making the terrain
- plenty of shader textures
- custom scripted audio effects
- emitter objects |

Skybox Textures by
Hipshot.
Four software applications were used in the creation of this terrain including custom
in-house developed software. Even greater detail will be used on the next map.
It would have been nice to increase the tree density over the entire map, but the goal was
to keep the map running at a respectable framerate with 16 to 24 players.
Low end PCs should turn off the Foliage option (terrain deco layers) and set their World
Detail level to Normal or Low, for a large increase in game framerate.
For extra game fun, be sure to try the following mutators with this map: Lightweight
Vehicles, Stunt Vehicles, and Vehicle Pickups. And for a cool bot's-eye-view of the
realistic environment, start a Spectate game, choose your favorite bot, then press F4 to
see what they see.
The standard ONS-TCMP-DG-Meadowland map includes the following features:
- best suited for 6 to 10 players, maximum 24
- two Cores and 5 Nodes
- 8 Link setups
- two weapon lockers at each Core and Node, every weapon is available on map
- 21 vehicles (Scorpion, Hellbender, SPMA)
- 2 turrets (one at each Core)
- farther fog distance for more scenery viewing |
